Dear Ronan – 11 months old.

Hey sweet boy,

It’s 11:58pm, so it’s still technically your 11 month birthday.  I didn’t forget, I just didn’t have time to write earlier in the day.

Yeah, first I need to tell you that I love you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much!  So with a hundred O’s.  You are so sweet and amazing.  You give me the best hugs, they make my day in an instant.  Daddy gets home from work and he can’t even be grumpy about having a bad day, because as soon as you see him you start laughing and clapping!  You love your daddy so much.

You took your first steps this month, Ronan!  Last week, you took three in a row all on your own.  And then four!  Yesterday, I caught you taking seven whole steps before you fell.  You hate to fall, but you always get back up and try again.  Daddy has been walking you around and letting you kick a soccer ball… you LOVE to do that.  You giggle and laugh the whole time.  Flint gets all excited, and then you laugh even more!

You still love to eat.  As soon as dad or I start eating, you come crawling over with your mouth open.  “PUT FOOD HERE!”  And you’ll eat everything we give you!  Eggs, broccoli, cottage cheese, it’s all good.  Cucumber and apples still seem to be your favorite.  We’ve figured out how to use the straw, so straw sippy-cups are a big it.  You LOVE water!  Even in the bath tub, you bend over and put your whole face in the water to drink it.  You make us laugh.

We have so much fun on playdates, kiddo.  You’re a little shy and reserved at first, and then you find your footing.  You like to show off, and make your toys look like SO MUCH FUN so everyone else will want to play too.  The ball pit, OH the ball pit!  If that wasn’t the BEST gift ever, I don’t know what was!  You play in that thing every single day.  We’re going to have hundreds of pictures of you in the ball pit.  I hope it never gets old for you.

I don’t know what else to tell you, kiddo.  You are such a joy to be around.  I love to watch you when you don’t know I’m watching.  I love to catch you doing something you know you should be doing.  I love to see you play with daddy, and how much fun you have together.  I love being your mommy.

Until next month, sweetie, when you turn ONE year old, I love you every day.

Dear Ronan: 10 months old.

Hello again, sweet boy.

Another month has gone by.  I feel like I wrote my last letter to you yesterday.  I only wish the time would go by slower so I could spend more days with you.

This month, you got to meet Nana and Grumpa.  They loved you SO much… and you loved them!  I still can’t believe how quickly you warm up to strangers, with a smile and then with play.  They bought you some amazing gifts for Christmas  – a ball pit, and a giant teddy bear.  I don’t think you could have been happier.

You’ve been doing some major growing this month, son.  You’re 31 inches tall!  And 21 pounds.  Everyone that meets you tells me how BIG you are for just 10 months old.  You’ve been cruising around the house, holding on to every object you can find, trying to walk but not quite ready yet.  You’ll be running around with us chasing after before we know it.  You talk all the time, just like your mum!  A little blabbermouth.  Daddy loves it.  You make him laugh all day.  And in just a few days, you’ll be experiencing your very first Christmas!  We are so excited.

You still don’t sleep, my baby boy.  It gets harder and harder as you get older and older.  You get so frustrated with us, and can’t communicate, so you pinch.  I dearly hope that’s something you grow out of.  Daddy handles you with patience better than I do right now, so he’s been loving you to sleep every night.  You love your daddy so very much… always full of smiles and laughs when you see him.

Ronan, you clap and cheer!  You crawl so fast, and you LOVE to throw things.  Flint is still your favorite toy, and you laugh when you chase him.  You HATE getting dressed, and you would rather crawl around without a diaper on than anything else in the world.  Bathtime is always so much fun.

You are an amazing little human, Ronan.  I’m lucky to be part of your life.

Dear Ronan: 9 months old.

Little boy, a whole month has gone by.  And you haven’t sat still for any of it!TBRonan112309

Somewhere between here and then, you learned how to crawl like a big guy.  Now there’s nothing that can stop you!  Back and forth across the floor faster than we can say “look at him go!”  You pull yourself up on everything, and just started letting go.  So brave.  That puppy dog, Flint, is still your most favorite toy in the world – after Daddy of course.  We call you “speed bump” because you love to detour across the room to crawl your way across daddy’s legs. You make us laugh every single day.  You love to blow raspberries, and you bite everything that gets near your mouth… including me!  You started saying “Da da da da da” last week, and your dad couldn’t be happier.  You still don’t love to sleep, but things get a little better and a little worse.  We’re working on it.

I’m so proud to know you, and so excited to see you grow up, Ronan.  Already, I know you are an amazing boy.  You think about things, really think about them.  You figure things out.  You like to see how things go together and come apart again.  When something doesn’t go right, or hurts you, you don’t just cry and leave, you get mad and determined.  You try it again, and do it right the second time.  You are so happy, son.  SO happy.  Everything makes you laugh, or giggle, or squeal.  Everyone that knows you, everyone that meets you tells us how sweet you are.  You are such a boy – you hit EVERYTHING!  And if you pick something up, you have to hit it against something else.  Your favorite food is Macaroni and Cheese, you laugh when you see us getting it ready.  You don’t really care for cottage cheese; you’ll eat it, but you aren’t too happy about it.  Some of your favorite snacks are cheerios and Yogurt, bananas, oatmeal, and avocado.  You are such a good eater.  I hope you keep it up.

I can’t wait for the next month, bug.  I don’t know what it has in store for us, but I’m excited for it.  Every day, I feel like you’re growing up too fast, but I love the little man you are growing into.  I want you to know, son, your whole life through – that even though mom and dad get mad sometimes, even though we might get frustrated or upset – we still love you more than words can say.  We are always proud of you.  We always want the best for you and more.  Nothing you could ever do would make us stop loving you.  And no matter how big you get, you will always be my baby boy.

Dear Ronan: 8 months old

Wow.  I can hardly believe I just wrote those words.  8 months old?  Son, you are 8 months old today.

You have been a part of my life for these few short months, and yet I feel like I have always known you.  I can’t imagine a day or a time before you, I can’t remember when I didn’t know you.  Every day, I get to enjoy our world through YOUR eyes.  I never knew Cheerios could be so much fun, or how hilarious our dog is.  I love getting to see your eyes light up when Daddy gets home, and how happy he is to see you.  I get to wipe your sloppy kisses off my cheek, and unwrap my hair from your tiny fingers.

These last few weeks have been so hard on us, Ronan.  We think you’re never going to learn to sleep, and you make us CRAZY sometimes.  Daddy and I trade you back and forth, trying to calm you down, to settle you into bed… but you fight!  You are just as stubborn as we are!  No matter how tired we get, or frustrated, no matter how badly we want you to go to sleep; we still enjoy every single moment we get to play with you.  Sometimes I’m glad that you are awake because I miss you when you’re sleeping.

You are almost ‘big boy’ crawling now, even though you scoot around on the floor at a hundred miles an hour!  You love to sit on your knees and play with books.  Any time you can stand up, you will – at the couch, at the TV, at the baby gate.  You fake laugh all of the time, and it makes me laugh.  Then you laugh at me because I’m laughing!  Your favorite thing in the world is Meet The Robinsons.  You watch so intently, and couldn’t care less if we put something else on.  I don’t mind, because I like the movie too.  I want to watch it with you when you’re older, and see if you still think it’s great.  You LOVE food, Ronan.  Any time you see me or Daddy eating, you open your mouth.  “Food goes HERE, Mum.”  If we don’t share with you, you let us know that you aren’t happy about it.  You hate the vaccuum, and can’t STAND to have your diaper changed.  You chase the cat everywhere he goes, but he always seems to be one step ahead!  I LOVE to go up and get you when you wake up from a nap;  you’re always standing at the side of your crib with a huge grin on your face, and you hug me SO tightly when I pick you up.

I love you more than words can say, Ronan.  I can’t wait to watch you grow up, to see what excites you, to help you learn and grow.  I can’t wait to teach you things, and share every single day with you.  And even as I say those words, I want you to stay my little baby boy forever.  I’m not ready to give up my cuddles and coos.  You are already so independent.  Please don’t grow up too fast.
